I work for a company that was recently purchased by a new owner, and the new owner has been trying to make some changes in order to improve how the company runs since he first took over. I am not sure if the changes will help, or not, at this point in time, but it is not like I have any say in the matter. Anyway, one thing he is doing, is making the department heads do total team building exercises in order to try to improve the strength of their team, and how efficiently each department works.
I am not sure if that is really necessary, because some of these departments consist of people who have been working together for a long time, and I am not sure that a team building exercise will do much good. For example, my department has been the same for almost 3 years now; we have not gained a new member, or lost a member of the department, in almost 3 whole years. That sounds pretty incredible, when you think about it, but none the less, the new owner wants me to come up with some team building exercises, and I guess that I do not really have much of a choice in the matter.
I am going to try to to look online to help me to come up with some great ideas for team building; it needs to look like I put a serious amount of effort into finding the team building activities that I end up suggesting for use. I will have to submit the activities I plan to use to the new owner, for approval, prior to using them with the members of my department. I wish that he would just trust that I will pick some good ideas for team building instead, but I guess I can understand his reasoning as well.
